Raiyon's Dynamic Lightning Add-on

Addons 1.21 / Addons 26

Raiyon's Dynamic Lightning is a useful mod for dynamic lighting in the game.

Java players have taken dynamic lighting for granted for over a decade thanks to mods like Optifine, while Bedrock players have been stuck navigating pitch-black caves or spamming hundreds of torches just to see the floor. Raiyon’s Dynamic Lighting finally brings that seamless illumination to the Bedrock engine without relying on the clunky, game-breaking workarounds that usually plague these types of behavior packs. You just hold a torch, lantern, or piece of glowstone, and the immediate radius lights up in real-time as you move.

The technical history of dynamic lighting on this engine is a complete mess. Early Bedrock attempts relied on background command loops rapidly placing and destroying invisible light blocks at the player's coordinates every single tick. That method was an absolute nightmare for server stability—it triggered massive block-update cascades, broke nearby crops, snapped redstone wiring, and frequently left behind permanent ghost blocks that corrupted chunk lighting. Raiyon bypassed that engine friction by utilizing modern scripting optimizations to handle the light emission. The illumination tracks the player smoothly without constantly forcing the engine to recalculate block states, meaning you can actually sprint through a mineshaft holding a torch without your frame rate completely tanking.

The utility here goes way beyond just holding a light source. The scripting dynamically applies to dropped items and entities as well. If you toss a lantern down a massive ravine, you can physically watch it illuminate the walls as it falls, letting you scout for diamond veins or hostile mob spawns before you risk dropping down. It even tracks burning entities, meaning a zombie that catches fire at dawn will actually cast a moving light source as it runs around panicking.

From a survival standpoint, this fundamentally changes early-game resource management and inventory clutter. You no longer have to strip an entire forest to craft enough coal and sticks just to fully light up a single cavern. Because the pack supports off-hand functionality—something Bedrock notoriously struggles with—you can keep your sword or pickaxe ready while letting your off-hand torch passively light the way. It completely alters the atmosphere of the Deep Dark and massive cave biomes, making exploration feel significantly more immersive. It is one of those rare quality-of-life upgrades that runs so smoothly, you will genuinely forget it isn’t a native vanilla feature until you log into a standard server and suddenly find yourself completely blind underground.
