The Reeker Mod

Addons / Addons 1.21

The Reeker (Experiment) Mod is all about tension and reading the room. The Reeker isn’t just another mob that sprints at you on sight—it starts off stalking and observing, like it’s trying to decide if you’re a problem. It spawns in forests (including jungles), it can swim, and it can break blocks, so even “safe” terrain doesn’t stay safe for long. The add-on is still early, so expect bugs and future updates, but the idea is already super unique for a survival world that needs more paranoia.

What really makes it interesting is the hidden Threat Level system. The Reeker gets threatened by two things: your gear and your kills. It doesn’t only care about what you’re wearing either—just having extra swords, tools, weapons, or armor in your inventory raises your threat. Killing animals (including villagers and especially babies) can instantly push you into “enemy” territory, and in multiplayer it’s even more likely to target the higher-threat player.

Butterflies are your warning sign. Yellow means you’re safe, then it shifts through green, orange, purple, and red as your threat rises. The Reeker also has stalking rules—sometimes staring at it makes it flee, but if music plays you’re supposed to look away or hide. When it flees, it can infest the area with reeking blocks and worms, and those blocks can even hide useful loot. There are tools to deal with that too: a Mold Cleanser that reduces infestation in a big area, and a Bug Sprayer that can kill worms and even stun the Reeker with a sweet scent. If you want to befriend it, you’ve got to approach while it’s sitting, hold exactly 30 blueberries, don’t swap items or interact, and wait for it to choose what happens. It might reward you, but it can also play you, which is honestly the best part of The Reeker (Experiment) Mod.
